“Never doubt that a small group of highly aware and engaged people can change the world. In fact, that’s how the world has always changed”. The emblematic quote by anthropologist Margaret Mead reflects the shared vision of Shirat Shevat, a group inspired by Shirat Miriam, founded in 2013 and which also blew good winds for the creation of Shirat Imaot and Shirat Darom, all affiliated with UJR (Union of Reform Judaism – Latin America) and WRJ (Women of Reform Judaism), with the main focus on female protagonism.
The intercommunitarian Shirat Shevat will be born with Jewish roots without borders on the New Year’s Day of Trees (Tu b´Shevat), the 15th day of the month of Shevat 5781, after sunset on January 26, 2021. On one side of the globe, it will welcome the tropical summer and on the other side, it will thank the blessings of the winter rains, thus guaranteeing abundant harvests for the next season. In times of pandemic of the new coronavirus, the idea gained relevance with the need to unite Jewish women from all corners of the planet, with Tikun Olam as the intersection point: the reparation of the world and the most urgent humanitarian human causes. The remote and monthly meetings will have as an intersection point the intergenerational engagement with the participation of young people and their concerns and questions.
The first meeting, on January 26 at 7:30 pm, will be a great opportunity to talk about the sustainability and nature preservation provided for in the Torah. We will have the moment “Tribute to the Tree of Life” with the presence of Sandra Strauss, teacher of Kabbalah and founder of the Engenharia da Alma school. Our 10 attributes (sefirot) will be remembered and contextualized during the journey. The divine presence (shekinah) will guide the way. As always.

Ana lives in Maceió, Jacqueline in Salvador and Lívia in Belo Horizonte. The three are getting to know each other more often, remotely. When the weather is right, they will embrace in person. For now, they will continue to embrace trees as well as Shirat Shevat.
