In a moving demonstration of unity and action for social justice, on the last Sunday of October, chanichim, madrichim and the mazkirut of Netzer Costa Rica came together to support an institution dedicated to helping children in vulnerable situations. These dedicated young people showed that their community’s values of Tikun Olam (repairing the world) are not just words, but a guiding principle in their lives.
The group assisted the FundaVida institution, which trains young Costa Ricans at risk in impoverished communities. Through extracurricular educational activities, the institution promotes experiences, socialization and learning about technology and other subjects that aim to guarantee the future of the younger generations of these communities, preparing them for the job market and to envision new horizons in their workdays and in life.
The founder and ex-mazkira of Netzer Costa Rica, Hannah Zango, explained to the UJR-AmLat newsroom about Tikun Olam’s action, which involved helping FundaVida build its new home:
“What we did was help them move from one place to another because they had to move all of their equipment, all of their furniture, all of their stuff that was really super heavy. We cleaned the new facilities so that the windows and floors were clean so they could start continuing their activities this week.”
At the end of the action, Netzer members were able to interact with young leaders from those communities, who according to Netzer itself, are a true example to follow.
The initiative taken by Netzer Costa Rica is a testament to the power of community and the importance of giving back. Their involvement not only made a tangible difference in the lives of these at-risk children, but also served as an inspiring example of how people can make a positive impact on the world when they come together with a common goal.
Their efforts remind us that kindness knows no boundaries and that compassion and empathy can bridge gaps and bring hope to those who need it most. In a world often marked by division, especially at the moment we live in, this story shines as a beacon of unity and altruism, showing us that, regardless of any differences, we can come together to make the world a better place for those who need it most. .
At the end of the same day, Netzer promoted a small event in honor of the hostages of the Israel-Hamas conflict who are still missing. With this act, we also remember people who are in a vulnerable situation due to a danger that surrounds our friends and relatives who are in Israel and in all Jewish communities around the world. Even at this moment, we show our unity and strength so that not only Judaism, but our actions towards the world around us continue, strengthen us and unite us as a society.
