Adult B-Mitzvah 2025: A Celebration of Belonging and Learning in the Jewish Community of Brasília

On November 20th, the Jewish community of Brasília hosted the collective Adult B-Mitzvah ceremony for the 2025 cohort, organized by UJR-AmLat in partnership with ACIB.

The gathering brought together participants, families, leaders, and community representatives in a moment of deep emotion and meaning — reflecting UJR-AmLat’s commitment to expanding access to progressive Jewish life and embracing diverse journeys at every stage of adulthood.

Amiút in action: presence and community connection

For André Liberman, Education Coordinator at UJR-AmLat, attending the ceremony is a core expression of UJR’s mission:

“Being present at the B-Mitzvah ceremony of the 2025 cohort is much more than representing UJR. It means celebrating the personal journey of each participant, whom we accompany with care and dedication. We strive to stay close to every path so that each one is truly meaningful. In the end, we celebrate and are moved together with the participants and their communities. That is amiút: our sense of belonging and peoplehood.”

A life milestone: the participants’ voices

Among the celebrants, Nina Pencak shared a touching testimony about her experience completing her Adult Bat Mitzvah at the age of 37:

“On November 20th, I had the honor of celebrating my Bat Mitzvah in a collective ceremony with three dear friends. The opportunity given to me by UJR, ACIB, and CIP to take the Adult BM course changed my life.

At 37, I was able to celebrate my Jewish identity with my community, family, and friends — something truly priceless. Initiatives like this strengthen community life and ensure that all Jews feel a sense of belonging, regardless of age or whether they studied in a Jewish school. The opportunity to belong is renewed through programs designed for adults, which is incredibly meaningful.
I can say with absolute certainty that this was one of the most important moments of my life.”

Education, tradition, and renewal

The Adult B-Mitzvah Program of UJR-AmLat reaffirms the commitment to making Jewish life accessible, relevant, and transformative.
The ceremony held in Brasília highlights the strength of the partnership between UJR-AmLat and local communities grounded in inclusion, learning, and spiritual renewal.

UJR-AmLat congratulates all participants and celebrates, together with the communities involved, the importance of this milestone in shaping a conscious, connected, and meaningful adult Jewish life.
