In recent days, we have been following with great concern the developments related to the Kotel, one of the most profound symbols of the history and spirituality of the Jewish people. For those of us who live in the diaspora, the Kotel is not only a sacred place, but also a space that represents belonging, memory, and the diversity of paths that have always been part of Judaism.
The possibility of decisions that may restrict pluralistic expression at the Kotel affects us directly. We cannot accept that a place that belongs to the entire Jewish people be administered in a way that excludes voices, practices, and traditions that are part of the vitality of contemporary Judaism. The relationship between Israel and the diaspora is sustained through the recognition of this diversity, not through the imposition of a single way of living Jewish life.
The Kotel is a spiritual symbol that must remain open to everyone. Defending its pluralistic character is not a circumstantial political gesture, but a clear affirmation that the unity of the Jewish people is only possible when there is respect for differences and mutual responsibility among all.
At this moment, when the reality in Israel is once again marked by war, fear, and uncertainty, we feel an even greater urgency to reaffirm what keeps us united: the value of life, our commitment to one another, and the refusal to accept violence as the only possible path.
We raise our prayers for peace, for the preservation of life, and for days of greater stability. We express our solidarity with all those affected by the war, keeping alive the hope and spirit of solidarity that unite us, even in the most difficult moments.
